Ruby Jean

From Chain Dog to Therapy dog

Ruby Jean was found wandering the streets of Norfolk and rescued by a kind stranger.  When found she was 8 months old and dragging 5 foot of chain from a tow truck complete with her very own pad lock.  She only weighed 30 pounds.  The chain weighed more than Ruby Jean.

Ruby Jean stayed in foster care for nearly a year.  She was kicked out of two foster homes, including the home that eventually adopted her and what were meant to be “forever homes” twice.  Finally her foster mother found a pit bull friendly trainer to help with the behavior issued and realized she couldn’t live without her.

Today Ruby Jean is 7.5 years old, has earned her Canine Good Citizen Award and is a certified therapy dog.  She has been a "foster" mother to countless rescued puppies and continues to help her owner train and socialize each new rescue.  Ruby Jean happily lives with three other pit bulls and her proud mother Elaine Swarts, the co-founder of Virginia Beach Pit Bull Response Team.
